School got off to a smooth start Monday according to both principals and Superintendent David Gangel.
There were 1,008 students in school Monday, 625 at the elementary school and 383 at the high school. By Tuesday enrollment had increased to 1,022, the highest it has been since early in the 90s.
Dr. Gangel said enrollment usually increases through the first two weeks of school, and he expects that trend to continue this year. The budget was built on an expectation of 1,010 students in average daily membership through March. The county can expect to receive some additional funds from the state if ADM exceeds 1,010.
The increased enrollment appears to be due to children being moved into the school system rather than any increase in the birth rate. This year’s kindergarten is the second smallest class at the elementary
