The park service is inviting comments on its proposal until September 8. Comments may be sent to Superintendent’s Office, Shenandoah National Park, Route 4, Box 348, Luray, VA 22835.
One of the first to respond was Congressman Frank Wolf, R-lOth District, who wrote to Shenandoah National Park Superintendent William Wade immediately after receiving notice of the proposal to restrict access to the Old Rag Trail.
“I am concerned with this measure which limits access to one of the park service’s most enjoyable treasures in the shadow of the nation’s capital,” he wrote.
He wrote the park service should be making Old Rag more, not less, accessible and suggests “holding public hearings on this matter.” He also suggests that parking should be developed within the park.
