Harry Doyle of Bell Atlantic said this was to protect their customer’s privacy since the E-911 system displays the telephone number and address when a call comes in to the dispatch center, and he said customers had to authorize the company to release that information.

He also said Bell Atlantic was not responsible for publishing the 899 number, and residential customers should call the business office at 9546222 and business customers should call 954-6888 to report the new addresses. These are toll-free calls.

A call to the Bell Atlantic number yields a voice mail message that does not mention E-911. Ultimately the Bell Atlantic business office treats the call as a simple change of address.

Of course customers who will get their mail at their new E-911 adresses will have to notify Bell Atlantic and all their other correspondents of their new address because the post offices will stop delivering mail to the old addresses. However, many people will not have to change their addresses. They use post office boxes, or their Rappahannock County house is a second home and their bills come to their primary home.
