to 125 cars with restroom facilities would have to be put in park land. He said there is a possibility that a third party might purchase the land and donate it to the park. Shenandoah National Park cannot purchase land.
A new parking lot at the trail head would be only part of the solution, Mr. Baker said. It would still be necessary to turn people away once the lot is full.
He said the park is trying to encourage people to hike some of the other miles of trails assessible from Skyline Drive and to hike Old Rag on week days.
The park service estimates that 100,000 hikers a year hike Old Rag.
