Also on August 22, at 5:52 p.m., a 1987 pavement roller owned by Lee Hi Paving and operated by Bernard Johnson, 35, of Culpeper, struck a guard rail when the brakes failed to work. Mr. Johnson received minor injuries. There was $300 damage done to the guard rail, antj the pavement roller sustained $10,000 damage. Investigating Trooper Woodard filed no charges.
Last Sunday, Dennis Richard Spurr, 36, of Manassas, was travelling in a 1988 Chevrolet 2-door on U.S. 211 .1 mile west of Route 729 when he ran off the right side of the road, lost control, and struck an embankment. A passenger in the car, Karen Lou Spurr, 31, was injured. Trooper Moore charged Mr. Spurr with reckless driving. The accident occurred at about 6:11 p.m.
Last Saturday at around 6:41 a.m., Carolyn Ann Roberts, 33, of Sperryville, hit a deer with her 1994 Pontiac. The accident occurred on U.S. 211 in Sperryville near Route 612. She was not injured, but her cas was damaged in the amount of $1,500, according to Sheriff John Henry Woodward. Deputy Chris Williams responded to the accident.
An anonymous phone call tipped off the Sheriffs Office to investigate a small patch of marijuana plants growing on property on Route 630 in Flint Hill. Sheriff Woodward said there were four 5-foot tall plants found. He said the investigation is continuing and charges are pending in the case.
