Virginia and visited and traveled in Hawaii where her daughter and son-inlaw are stationed with the U.S. Army in Honolulu. They got to visit with their granddaughter but also got outside the city and visited some of the other islands. On Oahu they found the village of La Haina. A former whaling village, it has become a touris attraction with several art galleries including one that wants to carry her work.
So she will be working on another large painting, this one of La Haina as seen from the water. First, however, she is doing several watercolors of what may become parts of the scene.
She sees this work as part of “preserving the way things are....In Hawaii it was hard to find anything like a village,” she said. There is a Polynesian cultural center that shows how villages'once appeared “like a stage set — like Williamsburg,” she said.
While she is working on her Hawaiian pieces, she will also begin work on a large painting of the town of Middleburg. People had asked her to do it before, but it is only recently that she has felt like doing it.
