To the Editor:
For those who were unable to attend the Rappahannock County Public Schools’ Volunteer Recognition Ceremony on May 2, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the many hours of volunteer effort expended this year.
I have documented the work of over 150 volunteers in the system who have put in over 2,100 hours of their time to support public education in our community, and I’m still being told of others. These numbers only reflect the “tip of the iceberg,” however.
Volunteers in Rappahannock tutor, make signs, raise money, collect and count soup labels, tell stories, judge SQience fairs, work in the library, man the computer lab, support athletics and so much more.
It is wonderful to see so many people who are determined to make our school system better by getting involved and working in a positive way to implement change. '
I invite you all to catch the volun: teer spirit! Our children will benefit from your presence in so many ways, and you will have an opportunity to see first-hand the wonderful things happening in our schools.
This Thursday night, May 16 volunteers will be teaching a variety of “mini-courses” for adults in an attempt to see how much community support there might be for an on-going adult education program in Rappahannock. I urge you to come out and join the fun. I feel sure that you’ll go horn? richer for the experience. Flyers may still be ' picked up at the library and most general stores along U.S. 211.
