To Amend Its Certificate Of Public

Convenience And Necessity To Provide

Long-Distance Telecommunications Services

And To Have Its Rates Determined Competitively - Case No. PUC960017

On March 27, 1996, Central Telephone Company of Virginia (“Center or "Applicant”) filed an application with the State Corporation Commission (“Commission”) to amend its certificate of public convenience and necessity in order to provide interexchange telecommunications services to the public throughout the Commonwealth. Centel currently holds a certificate of public convenience and necessity to provide services to other interexchange carriers over its facilities.

The Commission will schedule a public hearing on Centers application if substantive objections are lodged against the application; otherwise, the Commission may grant the requested certificate and authority for competitive rates without conducting a hearing.

Copies of the application are available for public inspection in the Commission’s Document Control Center located on the first floor of the Tyler Building, 1300 East Main Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219, between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or can be ordered from Centers attorney, James B. Wright, Central Telephone Company of Virginia, Inc., 14111 Capital Boulevard, Wake Forest, North Carolina 27587.

On or before May 30, 1996, any person wishing to lodge an objection to Centers application may file with the Clerk of the Commission comments or requests for hearing. Any corporation shall be represented by counsel in accordance with Rule 4:8 of the Commission’s Rules of Practice and Procedure and shall file an original and fifteen (15) copies of any comment or requests for hearing on or before that deadline. Individuals may file single copies. All comments or requests for hearing shall be filed with William J. Bridge, Clerk, State Corporation Commission, c/o Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, Virginia 23218, and shall refer to Case No. PUC960017.
