Construction of the surge basin for the Sperryville sewer plant will be delayed until winter under a new schedule adopted by the Water and Sewer Authority last Thursday.
Engineer John Orr presented the WSA members with two options, one to contract separately for the actual tank and plumbing parts and the other to seek a general contractor for the entire project. Contracting separately could mean a savings of the 10 to 15 percent markup general contractors usually charge, Mr. Orr told WSA members. On the other hand it will require more work from them.
He said he had talked with one supplier who estimated the cost of a 55,000-gallon tank at $75,000. He said that would not leave enough money to complete the project. The same supplier could provide a 35,000gallon tank for $65,000, he said, and that would leave enough to complete the project. Mr. Orr said he would talk with other suppliers before recommending the smaller tank.
The authority decided to contract
