The Clarke County varsity soccer players who went home with no goals to the Panthers’ five last Wednesday may have thought it was a bloodbath.

But the Panthers definitely treated it as a mudbath. They squished, slid and splashed their way to victory, laughing at some of the ridiculous plays the pouring rain created.

Like the straight shot that Eddie Sause had for a goal, only the ball stopped dead in the middle of a huge puddle.

Or the goal Mike Wolfe discovered after rising from a heap of arms and legs and finding that his ball had rolled in slow-motion past the prone goalkeeper and into the net. “I planned it that way,” he deadpanned.

By 10 minutes into the game, there wasn’t a white shirt on a Panther player. Everyone had gone down, sliding five or 10 feet along the ground on their bottoms or bellies.
