He said if those departments are shut down "in our district thousands will be out of work." He noted that not only the government employees but the merchants that depend on them will be hurt. "Property values will be down. It will truly be an ecomomic disaster."
"The only thing I agree with Newt is that this is the most important election in 50 or 60 years. It is so crucial we win 20 seats or niore, and we can v pick up four of those seats in * Virginia," he said. v
He urged those attending to volunteer to work in his office on Main Street in Washington. "We need help in the crucial last weeks," he said.
He noted that when Frank Wolf was first elected he promised he would only serve six terms saying when they serve longer "politicians become cynical."
"That has proved true," Mr. Weinberg said, noting that in recent weeks Rep. Wolf has become involved in introducing a rider onto the transportation bill that would overrule a juvenile and domestic court judge, which he called a clear violation of the separation of powers. "Sixteen years hats been too long. Help me help Frank Wolf keep his pledge to the American people."
