Be Fair
To the Editor:
I must respond to your headline article in the September 4 issue concerning local SAT scores. My genuine happiness about the RCHS math scores turned to disbelief at your choice of headline as I read the article and chart listing WCDS combined scores.
Given those scores, the article might have been titled, "WCDS SATs Tops in Area." Was your headline an error? At Wakefield Country Day School students are taught from an early age that details must support the main idea!
It is possible to write positive articles about public schools, private schools, and homeschools without bashing the alternatives. Why not write about the excellent departments at RCHS and WCDS and explore the changes that are being made to address weaknesses? At WCDS the Saxon math program has been adopted this year; there are new teachers in math and science and a sense of enthusiasm.
The Rappahannock News should join the effort of many parents, coaches, and teachers in showing our county youth by example that one can "Be Proud" and "Be Fair.”
