The classic radial-wave street light, which dates back to 1900, was not available for 30 years until the Pemco Lighting Co. of Wilmington, Del., introduced its modem version last year. We hope Sperryville and other historic Virginia towns will follow Washington's example and install these ornamental lights, too.

Dismayed
By Denuding
To the Editor:
I was dismayed after viewing the recent denuding of the land that has been done in the name of progress at the juncture of 29/211, commonly known as Clevinger’s Comer.
It doesn’t make sense that in order to develop a piece of property the land has to be completely cleared of all trees, bushes, and topsoil. Even storage sheds would benefit from the shade a tree could provide.
I realize that this area has been designated as a high density growth area for the near future, and a lot more development can be expected. I wonder if the Culpeper Planning Commission has looked at a long range plan on how best to preserve the beauty of this part of the county and at the same time meet the commercial needs of a growing area.
Isn’t it important that we as a com- „ munity become involved in the future planning, or should we leave it to the developer to exercise his environmental conscience?
