Proposed library
budget approved

Under the leadership of new board president E. Franklin Warner, the Rappahannock Library Board at last week’s meeting approved acceptance of the 1998-99 budget as proposed by library director David Shaffer.
The proposed budget, $98,658, is an increase of $1,985 over the FY *97-98 budget. The funds for the increase will come from state library aid and endowment income. The board is not requesting any change in county appropriation, which remains at the same amount as last year, $57,335.
The increase in state aid is expected to be about $1,365 whidh would bring the state aid figure to $23,403. Last year’s aid was $22,038. Endowment income should go from $11,600 to $12,200.
The increases in the proposed budget will be used for staff salaries and wages — a proposed 2.5 percent increase for staff salaries and a 4 percent increase for the salary of the director. This will almost bring the director’s salary on line with a teacher’s salary for the same number of years.
