he felt free to move from New York City where they had lived and worked for 11 years. They moved to Slate Mills in March 1997.

The 36-year-old illustrator hopes to move into the field of fine art where he can paint for himself, instead of commercial clients. “Painting gives me an enormous amount of pleasure. It is something that I have to do everyday or I miss it,” said Kenny.

Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design Kenny said he was influenced by 15th and 16th century Flemish and Dutch painters. His work displays the old masters’ eye for detail and symbolism and like them he paints in jewel-like colors with little tinting. He achieves the smooth flow and blend of one color into another by using thin layers of paint and then smoothing them of brush strokes before they dry.

Salvador Dali was another influence on Kenny’s work and included in the show is a portrait of Dali with a soft watch,
