I read James P. Gannon’s letter to the editor in the Jan. 14 issue of the Rappahannock News and I hacl to write. Though I live in Culpeper County I buy the News because it is interesting and personal and so many of my friends and neighbors live in Rappahannock.
Yes, sometimes the writing or coverage leaves something to be desired. Yes, there are typos. There are typos in The Washington Post, the London Times and the Chicago Sun, too, and every other newspaper in the world since Gutenberg — sorry Gutenberg. That hardly rates as a criminal offense. I am sure that you appreciate the importance of quality editing and will do everything you can to improve.
If I was the editor, I probably would have edited the nasty, self-righteous tone out of Mr. Gannon’s letter. Why he didn’t just call you up on the phone to talk to you “one newspaper professional” to
