Members of the Rappahannock County Garden Club enjoyed a change of pace for their September meeting. The club was invited to share a luncheon meeting with the Madison County Garden Club at Graves Mountain Lodge. A bountiful lunch was followed by a program on flowers and gardening presented by Hardie Newton.
Ms Newton, who arranges the flowers for Airlie, is a well known flower arranger, speaker, and author in the area. The topic of her program was “A Celebration of Flowers Gardening as Therapy.” She completed two stunning arrangements while entertaining her audience with comments, often humorous, about gardening and about her work.
The table centerpieces for the occasion were arrangements by members from both clubs on the themes of “Graves Mountain Bounty” using fruits and vegetables or “Country Garden” using flowers. These were judged and blue ribbons were awarded to Carol Miller and Mary Revercomb from the Rappahannock Club.
There were a number of horticulture exhibits also and two blue ribbons were won by Mary Priest from Rappahannock.
