The largest Lotto jackpot in the Lottery’s first 10 years was $28.4 million, a prize that was shared when five tickets matched all six numbers. As luck would have it, all five winners from the November 28, 1992, drawing showed up at lottery headquarters in Richmond to claim their share within an hour of one another. It looked almost like a happy family reunion! The winners came from Richmond, Fairfax, West Point, Newport News and Chesapeake.
The largest jackpot in Virginia has been in the Big Game, a jackpot game run by Virginia and five other states - Michigan, Maryland, Massachusetts, Illinois and Georgia. With more people able to buy tickets, jackpots can get bigger. In 1997 the Big Game jackpot rolled until it reached a whopping $80.2 million! Virginians have won two Big Game jackpots worth $20 million.
