The first Lotto drawing was held January 27, 1990. Virginia had its first jackpot winner on February 17, 1990, when a ticket purchased by Anthony Palermo matched all six numbers to win that first $7.1 million jackpot. Mr. Palermo and his family claimed their prize soon after finding out about their luck. The Palermos’ lucky ticket came from the Salem Food Mart in Virginia Beach.
The Virginia Lottery has introduced more than 100 scratch games, along with other games such as Pick 3, Pick 4, Cash 5, Kicker and the Big Game.
