Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins, 41, was appointed in 1985 when Merle Scoggins retired.
In a special election in 1986, Atkins won though opposed by two candidates and ran unopposed in three more elections. The Commissioner of the Revenue is paid $44,062.
Last week, Atkins and her staff of two full-time and one part-time assistant were checking personal property tax forms.
Other duties include collecting estimated state income taxes, helping residents file state tax, assessing buildi: g permits, and updating r -al estate, personal property and land use taxes.
