Forensics team
finishes first
Rappahannock High’s public speaking team won the Bull Run District title on Feb. 15. It was the third consecutive year Rappahannock has earned District first-place honors.
Rappahannock students won 24 of the 36 trophies awarded in 10 categories for lst-3rd places— the best forensics showing ever for a Rappahannock team. Students earning first place honors were: Jennifer Thomas, original oratory; Ian Blubaugh, extemporaneous (foreign); Amanda Welch, story telling; Emily Taylor, humorous dramatic interpretation; Jami Gillis, poetry interpretation; the team of Erin Platt and Lauren Sharp in varsity duo interpretation and the team of Jami Gillis and Wendy Gillis in novice duo interpretation.
Other Rapp students earning trophies were: Jason Ryczko, third in extemporaneous domestic and international; Robyn Kaye, second in story telling; Adam Rogers, second in prose interpretation; Austin Bouffard, second and Chrisi Robinson, third in poetry interpretation; Margo Haynes, second in serious dramatic interpretation; Colin Treanor, third in humorous dramatic interpretation; Adam Starks, third in spelling; and the teams of Robyn Kaye and Claire Schadler (2nd varsity), Margo Haynes and Richard Sitorious (2nd novice) and Natasha Payne and Margo Haydes (3rd novice) in duo interpretation.
First, second and third-place winners in the varsity division qualify to advance to regional competition at Madison County High School in March. First , and second place winners at regionals advance to the state tournament in Charlottesville also in March.
