New Business
• Susan Hoffman and Michael Biniek, owners of Belle Meade, applied for and received unanimous approval for moving the schoolhouse on v Route 231 away from the road, and renovating it for use as an educational conference room. She also received unanimous approval for four new family cabins.
• Richard and Sandra Antony received unanimous approval for a two-bedroom efficiency apartment in a building that will continue to be used as an office and nursery for growing azaleas.
• The commission, including Susan Babcock, Raymond Brown, Ron Frazier, Werner Krebser and Alex Sharp, unanimously re-elected Sharon Pierce as chairperson, and Tom Junk as vice-chairman for 12-month terms.
• In the ongoing review of the county code, Frazier, who is also the Jackson District supervisor, asked why churches were omitted as by-right uses from Section 107.36A.
He requested that churches be allowed by right in commercial and residential areas. Krebser rebutted that the exclusion of churches was accidental and that churches need restrictions, since they can grow and impact surrounding residential areas.
The commission agreed to consider changes that would allow churches by right in commercial zones.
