Clyde W. Pullen, 82, more affectionately and lovingly known as “Bump” died Feb. 21 at Fauquier Hospital in IWarrenton. ; ' Bom in the Piney Run area of Rappahannock County, he ’was a son of the late Romie Branson and Minnie Atkins Pullen.
Mr. Pullen was employed as a farmer nearly all his life, i^uorking almost wholly in ;R£ppahannock County. For a •gauple of years he worked in !tBe dairy business in Remington. Being a thrifty, -frugal and industrious husband and father, having come trough the rough times of the $freat Depression, he often Jerked for a quarter a day. He fSaved and by his labors was >$entually able to purchase a term of 114 acres. . At age 57 he suffered a ■stroke which left him paralyzed and prevented his further engagement in any labor. He humbly submitted to this condition, and always bore his great burden with patience. For more than 27 years he was faithfully tended to by his wife and family. He did not give up, and communicated through self-taught means. Even in his debilitation, he could hum the tune to his favorite hymn, Amazing Grace. His favorite pastime was playing a card game called “set-back.”
On May 8, 1935, at age 18, he married the former Lillie Mae Dwyer, at Flint Hill by the Rev. P.H. Chelf. Clyde and Lillie shared more than 63 years together.
