Miss Sonya Anderson of Sperryville, a student at Rappahannock County High School, attended the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) Feb. 16 through 21, in Washington, D.C.
This unique leadership development program invites high school students, chosen on the basis of their scholastic merit, community involvement, and leadership experiences, to interact with today’s national leaders.
Sonya is the daughter of David and Brenda Anderson of Sperryville.
Mark Levine, co-founder of Credit Where Credit is Due, Inc., gave the keynote address of the conference. Mr Levine welcomed the students to Washington, D.C., prepared them for an exciting week, and spoke to them about his role as a young leader.
Credit Where Credit is Due is a non-profit agency that promotes economic empowerment for low-income, immigrant families in upper Manhattan through the creation of the first-ever community development credit union in the area. For his community efforts, Mr. Levine won the prestigious 1998 Do Something BRICK Award national grand prize.
