Band scores big

in Williamsburg

The Rappahannock County High School Band competed with bands from New Hampshire and Virginia in a music festival in Williamsburg on May 15. The RCHS band brought home the first place trophy in their division.

In addition, first place sectional trophy was awarded to the clarinet section, and a first place solo trophy was earned by Holly Long for her flute solo. Following the competition, the band toured Busch Gardens on Saturday and the Renaissance Fair in Fredericksburg on Sunday.

You can hear this award winning band at their free concert, June 1 at the Rappahannock High School.

Sperryville carnival

days begin June 2

Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual carnival June 2-5. Wednesday and Thursday evenings will feature a special ride price. The parade will be held on Friday, June 4 beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday evening the crowning of the queen will be held at 10 p.m. and the awarding of the grand prizes at 12 midnight. Rides are provided by Dean Amusements. There will be games, food and fun for the entire family each evening. For general information call 987-8124. For parade information call 675-2530.
