Thanks to a grant from the Headwaters program, 27 students in Patti Waddell’s Biology II class at Rappahannock High School were certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on May 19. Many of these students, according to Mrs. Waddell, will be going into health-related fields after they finish school.
The certification capped off a program that included a number of components. First, the students had to read a CPR booklet. Then, after a couple of lectures on the subject, came the instruction which occurred last Wednesday. The students were instructed in both airway obstruction and CPR for infants, children and adults.
The instructors are all graduates of Rappahannock High School. Stacy Alther, Geraldine Payne and Matt Payne.are Cardiac Technicians who work with the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad. Ms. Alther is also a CPR instructor. Keith Jenkins is a paramedic with the Frederick County EMS. Andrew Clinedinst and Jeff Hudson, who are CPR certified and volunteer for the Sperryville Rescue
