The proposed Harris Conference Center and Resort attracted a large crowd and much debate at the May county Planning Commission meeting. All sitting members were present, as was County Administrator John McCarthy.
Prior to the commission addressing new applications, there was the matter of electing a new chairperson to replace Sharon Pierce. By a 41 vote, with Ron Frazier voting no and Tom Junk abstaining, Dr. Werner Krebser was elected commission chair for the remainder of 1999.
McCarthy commented that the Board of Supervisors should fill Ms. Pierce’s seat in their June meeting. Junk suggested that the Planning Commission write Ms. Pierce a thank you letter for her service to the commission.
