Making hay in the sun: Roy Leake and Eddie Jenkins said they are glad to be outside after having their work delayed by the torrential rains earlier this month. Sperryville merchants and residents are busy preparing for the weekend as they celebrate Spring Festival time, the occasion of the town’s celebration of spring in the mountains. The event kicks off on Saturday and will continue on Sunday. On May 29, the county will obsei*ve Memorial Day with a service at noon at St. Stephens Episcopal Cemetery in Woodville. The outdoor service has become a tradition, begun there years ago by the Rev. Jennings Hobson III and a group from Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington. Rev. Hobson will officiate at the service, which will include the raising of the colors by a detachment of military veterans. Following a short memorial service, Delegate Raymond R. “Andy” Guest Jr. will speak.
