• Dr. Dale Schusterman, owner of Rappahannock Chiropractic Services, applied for a special use permit so that he may purchase property owned by Brett and Cindy Boyce, and move his offices there. The property is on U.S. 211/522 just west of the town of Washington. Dr. Schusterman and his attorney, Doug Baumgardner, addressed the commission.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) would require a de-celeration lane for access, which may require Dr. Schusterman to purchase some additional square footage from an adjoining lot.
Commission member Susan Babcock questioned Dr. Schusterman about lighting at this location. Dr. Schusterman commented that he doesn’t plan to work at night.
Junk had concerns about the driveway access. Part of the road is paved, and part is gravel. Baumgardner said that the issue could be addressed prior to going before the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The commission voted unanimously to recommend approval to the BZA, contingent upon the following: final site plan approval by the commission, that the sign is no more than 12 square feet, that he co-locate a sign with other businesses who open in that area, and an entrance as required by VDOT.
House Bill 2324
In light of Governor Gilmore’s recent signing of House Bill 2324 into law, Dr. Krebser advised the commission members to study local subdivision ordinances so that they may address the issue in the future. Bob Dennis suggested that the commission hold public discussions on the bill.
The next Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for June 16.
