During the overnight of May 20/21, a bear broke into a car parked at a residence on Route 600 in. Sperryville. According to the complainant, his children left some cookies and spilled some milk in the car. The bear broke through a window, chewed up the interior and tried to pull out a seat. There were paw prints on the car and windshield. Game Warden Jim Bankston is following up with an investigation.
Sometime during the evening of May 21 or the morning of May 22, a donkey turned up missing from a residence on Viewtown Road. There is no evidence of theft. However, the owner believes that it was stolen because the donkey couldn’t have left on its own. An investigation is under way.
Meter stolen
A Rappahannock County Electric Co-op meter, valued at approximately $30, was stolen from a home on Rock Mills Road near Whorton Hollow Road on the night of May 12. The meter was just reported stolen May 17. The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Motorcycles are back
Despite numerous arrests, the speeding motorcycles are back on Fodderstack Road. Sheriff Larry Sherertz says that he and his deputies are developing another plan to combat this problem.
Traffic accidents
Virginia State Police gave details of two accidents in Rappahannock County last week. . Shortly after noon on May 1]B, Sheila Woods of Pratt, Va. ran off the road on Route 231 just south of Route 707 and struck an embankment. The driver was injured, but the extent of her injuries and damage to the car was not known. The driver was apparently ill at the time of the accident.
