The candidates forum last Thursday evening drew all 11 candidates for the various Board of Supervisors seats to answer questions on a variety of subjects. The event, sponsored by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, drew a decent crowd at The Theatre in Washington.
The candidates all seemed to agree on most issues. Almost everyone felt that taxes and the budget were the biggest challenge facing Rappahannock County over the next four years. Wakefield District representative Roger Welch, running unopposed, and Jackson District candidate Donald Brown added that growth would also be an issue.
Hampton District candidate Jim Oyster felt that the biggest challenge would be keeping education standards high. Board Chairman and Piedmont District representative “Pete” Estes, also running unopposed, commented that another big issue would be the cell towers. He said that it would put “neighbor against neighbor and community against community."
