The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors
has scheduled a public hearing for Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. to consider the designation of Route 522 as a “Virginia Byway” (like Route 231 and the Fodderstack Road) stretching from the Culpeper County Line to Chester Gap, but not including the 4-lane section from Sperryville to Washington (which VDOT may designate a Byway “connector.”)
The original proposal was made jointly to VDOT last December by several county organizations: The Rappahannock Historical Society, Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection (RLEP), Ragged Mountain Resource Center, and Rappahannock Roads Coalition.
TNow that VDOT has found the road to be worthy of the special designation, the Supervisors must give their approval to make it a reality.
