At a September meeting of the Lions Club the program consisted of a most enthusiastic and very informative presentation by Volunteer Coordinator Jan Makela who obviously generated a favorable response from the membership. The Board of Directors voted to provide the funding required to support the second year of “Book Buddies” at Rappahannock County Elementary School.
We think you will agree that our support is well justified. We were informed that “Last year the National Honor Society (NHS) students at Rappahannock County High School were tutors for,“Book Buddies.” We hope they will help us again. The NHS students received recognition for participation in a community service project. For the Rappahannock County Elementary School students it was a dream come true. Thanks to the hard work of the NHS tutors their Book Buddies progressed collectively through two complete reading levels.”
As Jan Makela said “it was amazing! Parents were thrilled and wanted to see the program continue. Teachers were ecstatic about the heightened self-confidence of their reading students! NHS students were surprised by how rapidly the children progressed! The students who were tutored? By the end of the program they were loving
