Mrs. H.M. (Ruth) Keyser of Washington has retired from the Rappahannock News where she has been employed for 12 years. Mrs. Keyser was in charge of the office and of the local social news department. She was feted with a luncheon Friday at the home of Mrs. Sarah Latham. The Rappahannock Recreation Center will belong to “everyone” stressed Granville Eastham, president of the Recreation Center Association, as he issued an appeal to every resident of the county to “get involved” by making a cash contribution to help make the center a reality. This money is needed to supplement the $15,000 grant and other assistance being provided by the state.

Skip Giles Jr. is just one Board of Review away from fulfilling the requirements for his Eagle Scout award, the highest honor bestowed by the Boy Scouts. Last week, the Eagle Review Committee of Troop 123 in Washington issued its final approval of his service project and sent the paperwork off to the Shenrapawa District office in Winchester for its review. If the district committee also approves, Skip will become the county’s newest Eagle Scout. Dr. David Brooke Miller of Washington has been named a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice as a result of passing a certification examination offered by the ABFP. Dr. Miller is now certified in the medical specialty of family practice. Practicing their skills, the county’s volunteer firefighters gave a demonstration of extrication skills at the Fire Prevention Day last Saturday at RCHS. They dismantled several cars using the Hurst “Jaws of Life” rescue tools.
