already built, approved or being considered along U.S. 211 in Fauquier County and Route 522 in Culpeper County, plus possibilities for large-scale regional road construction projects it is not hard to see that Rappahannock needs to do everything in its power to avoid going the way of its neighbors.
The “Byway” designation carries no legally binding restrictions of any sort for roadside property owners, other than off-site signage limitations similar to those already put in place by Rappahannock County. Still, the designation could only help protect the County from undesirable encroachments “down the road.”
The “Byway” designation would also promote tourism to a modest degree, in keeping with the County’s Comprehensive Plan and evolving tourism economy.
You can help by attending the Nov. 1 public forum or contacting your supervisor before then and voicing your support for the proposal to designate Route 522 a “Virginia Byway.”
