Whatever the cause of this delusory assessment, Superintendent David Gangel “thinks it incredibly misleading and casts doubt on the State’s credibility.” On the brighter side, the Virginia performance standards will not be fully effective until the 2006-2007 school year, and the State Board of Education released, on Sept. 27, a 90 page draft of suggested changes to the accreditation standards, apparently recognizing that its performance has been less than adequate. Parents should be receiving their copies of the Report Card shortly. Construction status
Dr. Gangel reported on the status of high school expansion, noting that a test wall had been erected to determine the acceptability of the proposed bricks. He also discussed the problem of student transportation and construction vehicle mixing, and said that the contractor is currently seeking to resolve the problem, perhaps by creating a temporary construction entrance to the site. The contractor’s earth moving equipment was recently responsible for knocking down the video line to the school he said, and will be restored next week after grading has been completed.
