Local bird watcher/naturalist. Jim Bywaters, encourages us to “enjoy the wonders of nature” in the June 20 installment of his weekly column in our paper. How refreshing a sentiment (thank you, Mr. Bywaters!), particularly after the snake photo, and how ironic that such opposing ideals were in the same issue!
We live in an exceptionally beautiful county that is home to various creatures, some of whom can be dangerous at times; caution is often the watchword when “in the hollows and hills.” But part of what makes Rappahannock such a treasure is the “wildness” of it - including the snakes.
Without such elements, we sacrifice the diversity and uniqueness of our natural world.
I, too, implore my fellow Rappahannock County neighbors to “enjoy the wonders of nature,” all of them!
