The Rappahannock Country Dancers entertained crowds as part of the pageant put on at noon on the courthouse steps last Saturday at Washington’s Independence Day celebration.
The Golden Panthers of Rappahannock completed their first season last week with a record of eight wins and four losses. Sponsored by Eldon Farms, the Golden Panthers are affiliated with the Rappahannock Athletic Association and played in the newly formed tri-county league organized by the RAA and groups from Madison and Greene counties.
Donna Cannon of Castleton has graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, where she majored in early childhood education and received a BS degree. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray T. Cannon and a 1977 graduate of Rappahannock County High School.

As she nears 85, Mary Quaintance Snead has slowed down some, but not much. She still plays bridge regularly, visits friends who are homebound or in nursing homes, and attends meetings of the Episcopal Church Women and the retired teacher’s organization. However, the education of Rappahannock’s children remains Mrs. Snead’s passion. She retired in 1977 following 48 years serving as teacher and principal in Rappahannock schools. A celebration was recently held honoring her service to the children of Rappahannock.
