Robert Dennis
A friend to many
Robert Grayson Dennis of Scrabble died unexpectedly on July 9.
Mr. Dennis, a school bus driver and proprietor of the Dennis Store on the corner of Routes 626 and 680 for more than four decades, had walked across the road to check his good friend Nick Hackley’s house when he suffered an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church in Woodville on Saturday, July 14. Viewing will commence at 11 a.m. and the funeral will begin at noon. Interment will follow the services.
The family is also hosting a family night on Friday, July 13 at the same location, from 7 until 9 p.m.
Born on May 24, 1930 Mr. Dennis was a lifelong resident of Scrabble.
He served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and received an honorable discharge in order to return to this region and care for his ailing father.
Mr. Dennis and his wife, Doris Dennis Dennis would have been married 48 years on July 10.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three grown children; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. His daughters, Angela Dennis White and Melissa Dennis Chambers, and son, Robert Dennis Jr., all live in close proximity to the Dennis Store comer.
Additional survivors include a sister, Edna Watts of Pensacola, Fla.
