• John Kiser, sponsor of the $200,000 Greve grant that was initiated in 1998, spoke to the School Board and provided a memoran* dum that reviewed grant history, purpose and progress. Mr. Kiser noted that the grant served to support creation of the School Council and effective schools research, and he expressed his hopes that the legacy of the grant will be the implementation of an effective schools program.

• Ron Makela spoke to the Board about high school teacher resignations during the public comments portion of the meeting. Mr. Makela encouraged the Board to investigate the reasons behind teacher departures, and said that “Money is an issue-but I think there may be other issues . . . We do a lot of administering, but I think we’re lacking in the leadership area.”
