The Castleton Fire Company carnival proved more successful than ever this year with gross receipts amounting to over $4,200 and a net profit of $2,700.
In a front page photo, Douglas Dodson of Washington caught a 4 3/4 pound bass tfiat his brother, John Dodson of Akron, Ohio is holding. The fish was taken from the pond at Echo Hill Farm owned by Jesse L. Ward.
On June 29-30 and July 1, the Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department celebrated its first year of operation with its first carnival. While attendance was light the first two nights, on Saturday a capacity crowd assured the success of the carnival. Gross receipts for the three nights were $2,735.03.
Robert L. Massie Jr. arrived Saturday to spend some time with his mother, Mrs. Frank Spalding and Mr. Spalding. He has just completed three years service with the U.S. Army in this country and in Europe.
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Fletcher of Thornton Hill, Sperryville and Oliver Durant of The Hill near Boston enjoyed water skiing and boating at Colonial Beach on Monday in the Fletcher’s new six passenger twin engine boat.

Charles K. Estes is the new Piedmont District representative on the Rappahannock Board of Supervisor, replacing E.P. Luke, who resigned last month. Mr. Estes took the oath of office Monday and began his term at the July meeting that day. He must stand for election in the November
