Dr. Gangel also presented the Board with a draft job description for the Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) position. He noted that the report of the School Council’s Curriculum Consultant was used as a blueprint for the job description, and that the job’s initial focus would be on those curriculum and instructional areas in which passing SOL test scores were not achieved.
Responsibilities specified in the draft include: division-wide oversight for curriculum development and updates, instruction and student achievement, assessment and testing, International Baccalaureate and G/T; input into inservice programs in the areas of curriculum and instruction; and input to Principals for those elements of teacher evalua tions pertaining to instruction.
Richard Smith, the inaugural DCI, said that he was looking forward to the challenge of the job, and emphasized that his vision for the position was not restricted to achievement of success in SOL tests.
