30. Coming ofT a one win and two loss performance in their last three matches, the Lady Panther Varsity was definitely trying to get back onto the winning path they had been on just two weeks ago.
Hosting the Lady Mustangs with their 3 and 6 record seemed like the way to do just that. Unfortunately the girls from GM had other ideas and after losing the second game to the Rapp side that tied the match, they decided they were going to steal this one from their hosts. They charged out of the gate in the third and final game and never looked back. They won that last game 15 to 5 against a Panther side that was starting to question their ability to win. As Coach Suzie Zylonis said, “GM is known as a weak team, but they’ve tightened up their top hitter/server and she was on tonight. Our service game was on again/off again, with missed serves at crucial times, and the girls gave up during game three.”
On Friday, Feb. 1, the girls traveled to Strasburg for the other end of their home and away series with this Bull Run District foe. Previously, the Lady Panthers had beaten the Lady Rams in a home match, two games to none, back in early January.
After soundly taking the first game at the purple and white gym by the score of 15 to 3, it looked as if it might be another two game night for the Rapp girls. But the Lady Rams stiffened up and made a match of it; winning the second game 15 to 11, and jumping out to a 10 to 2 lead in the final contest. But the Lady Panthers decided they were going to do some “stiffening” of their own.
