Gwen Johnson, a senior it Rappahannock County fligh School has officially Signed with Louisburg f ollege in Louisburg, N.C. to play softball on a scholarship.

The Hurricane Coach, sheilah Cotton is very excited to have Gwen coming on >oard. Ms. Cotton says, »Gwen will be the anchor on iur team as a catcher and we pre looking forward to her joining us.” ‘ The Hurricanes were E001 and 2000 Region X fchampions. They have consistently been Regional and District Champs for the last ten years. The Hurricanes have been ranked seventh in the nation for National Junior Colleges.
Coach Cotton has produced many NJCAA All Americans, First and Second Team Regional members as well as players invited to join the National and Pan Am teams. Many of these young players have gone on to fouryear colleges and been Extremely successful. • Some of Gwen’s softball accomplishments started in jniddle school. She played for Coach Jon Smythe in the fculpeper Little League system where he first taught her to be a pitcher. Gwen helped advance the 13-14 year old All Stars to the 1999 State Championship then on to the Division Four, SE Region Championship and a sixteenth place in the Little League World Series.
Her next two years were spent at Culpeper High School playing short stop and pitching. She continued playing summer ball with Coach Smythe. In 2000, Gwen faced a big decision in her personal life, i Her mother was moving ito Missouri and Gwen was unable to go with her.
