He was born Feb. 9, 1929 in Culpeper County, a son of the late Lafayette Harrison Brown and Nina Gouch Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Katherine Brown; eight children, Bonnie Jean Jenkins and her husband Cluster of Inlet, Russell Brown Jr. and his wife, Judy, Robin Burke and her husband, Wayne and Gregory Brown Sr. and his wife, Faye, all of Culpeper, John Brown Sr. and his wife, Patty and Kim Michelle Powell and her husband, Don, all of Mitchells, Wayne Michael Brown Sr. and his wife, Brenda of Boston and Ronnie Brown and his wife, Darlene of Unionville.
Additional survivors include 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one grandchild; one greatgrandchild; seven brothers; one half-brother; three sisters and one half-sister.
Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. John Miller officiating.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel in Culpeper was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Pauline Slaughter Collins, 67, of Falls Church died Saturday, Feb. 2 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 4 at Maddox Funeral Home in Front RoyaJ with Dr. C. Thomas Rhyne officiating. Burial was in Washington Masonic Cemetery.
