board lessons at Massanutten Resort this winter.
• Hearthstone’s Kindergarteners finished their fourfinger knitted scarves. Paige Noel’s lower school class (first through third grades) is studying the Arctic. In addition to reading about the Arctic and telling stories about the Inuits, the class observes and records the temperature four times a day and graphs their data. They have had a great deal of discussion around how hard it is for humans to survive in a frozen land, in addition to looking at the animals and how they survive.
The class is also reading “Owls in the Family” by Farley Mowat and knitting winter hats. . • The middle-school students each gave oral reports on, and collected objects from, a country of their choice in January. They also made handmade paper.
