We owe the celebration and the study of Black History Month to Dr. Carter G. Woodson. He brought national attention to the contribution of Black people throughout American History. February marks the birthday of two men who greatly impacted the American Black population, Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln.
The Chinese New Year is based on the Chinese calendar starting Feb. 12. Feb. 2 is actually the first day and is the year of the horse. It is Year 4699 by their calendar.
Instead of inventing twelve special symbols, they use 12 animals to represent these twelve years.
Ash Wednesday is Feb. 13, and is the first day of the penitential season of Lent in Christian Churches. It also means there are 46 days until Easter Sunday.
