master at WCDb, announced the winners of the 2002 Science Fair at Wednesday’s assembly. Thoughtful and interesting projects were judged and awarded ribbons. The winners are as follows: Fifth Grade: First Place, tie between Jim Hennessy and Julia Bancroft, Second Place, tie between Keenan Sherw'ood and Michael Safford, Third Place, Neil McClung; Sixth Grade: First Place, Rebekah Snyder, Second Place, Marguerite Beattie, Third Place, Joy Heddleston, Honorable Mentions, Alex Shafran and Nicole Espinola; Seventh Grade: First Place, Brittany Mountjoy, Second Place, Cat Toth, Third Place, Kate Kevis Honorable Mention, Nell Mann; Eighth Grade: First Place, Allison Russo, Second Place, Evie O’Reilly, Third Place, tie between Carter Bruce and Dorian Matthews; Ninth Grade, First Place, Alex Toth, Second Place, Danielle Dombrowski, Third Place, Aaron Marx.
Mr. Vargo also announced Best in Show awards: First Place, Allison Russo, Second Place, Brittany Mountjoy, Third Place, and Rebekah Snyder.
• Mrs. Evelyn Oyster, music director at WCDS, is organizing a trip for the sixth and seventh grade chorus students to a Choral Competition to be held in May at King’s Dominion. Students will have a chance to compete against other Class A schools in a public setting, before going out to enjoy the park. Sounds like a fun day!
• WCDS will be holding its fourth annual Jump Rope for Heart during PE classes Friday, Feb. 8. The students have been working very hard to improve their jumping times, with many of the students reaching the Ten Minute Club this past week. Parents are invited to watch their children compete on Friday.
WFTR, a local Front Royal radio station, will be announcing from the gym where the action takes place from 1-3 p.m., and there will be a mini Health Fair set up nearby so that interested parents and siblings can have their blood pressure
