Hammelman had a career high 14 points, along with Maureen Dale’s 27 points, Whitney Matthews’ 11 points, Caitlin Hammelman’s 4 points, and Danielle Dombrowski’s 2 points. Pumped up further by a rousing pep rally on Friday, the Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls met rival Wakefield Inc. for back-toback home games on Saturday afternoon.
With the gym filled to capacity, the games were loud and exciting. Although the Wakefield Inc. teams were missing a couple of starters due to injuries, they played aggressively and hard.
The Owls, both Boys’ and Girls’, emerged victorious, and sent the message to all up-coming teams: look out! Congratulations to all of the players; it was a great week!
• Samuels Public Library, located in Front Royal, recently honored the winners of this year’s Holiday Writing Contest. Of all the schools honored, WCDS had the greatest number of participants and winners.

• Wakefield Country Day School is playing host to the Virginia Region Pony Club’s 2002 Quiz Competition on Sunday, Feb. 17. Over 100 girls and boys between the ages of 8 and 17 from Pony Clubs throughout Virginia will be competing to test their knowledge of horses, horse management, and equestrian competition rules in a variety of forums: oral quizzes, hands-on knowledge, team competitions, and barn tests at three local barns.
