Ms. Woodard reminded the Board that the enabling grant of $200,000 from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) was received in June of 1999, and that the project priorities were to install a pedestrian bridge, improve drainage on Main Street, construct pedestrian walkways on Main Street, and make other improvements (including power line burial) as funds allowed. She voiced the group's concern about pedestrian safety, and suggested that the lack of proper walkways created the risk of a "tragedy waiting to happen."
"We want to see," she rend, "some real work underway. . . .We look to you for leadership, and stand ready to get this stalled project jump-started."
